BURLESQUE CHARM SCHOOL / DANCE PARTY WORKOUT

TUESDAYS – February 8 to March 15, 2011 / 7:30PM-8:30PM (6 week series)
It’s a mashup!
Dance Party Workout: We’ll be dancing to tunes from the swing era, classic bump n’ grind striptease music, and other contemporary songs that evoke the same feeling.
Charm School: Harkening back to the charm schools of the 1950′s, we will begin each class with mild stretches and “drills” on posture (yes, you will stand/walk with a book on your head) and mimicking several classic pinup poses. Then we’ll explore a focus topic, varied each week.
Led by Mynx d’Meanor.

Week 1: “The Look” – Finding your best angles, standing and sitting. We will spend time really looking at ourselves in the mirror to figure out how to show off our assets in the most flattering way possible, and hide any “flaws” we’re not so proud of.
Week 2: “The Strut” – Different ways of walking, based on character (shy kitten? vamp? etc.) and musicality.
Week 3/4: “The Dance” / The Drama” – Basic dance moves, developing character and drama with musicality and costume. Students are encouraged to bring music they want to work on.
Week 5/6: “Tease Techniques” – Putting it all together with tease and strip techniques, overview of playing with accessories (gloves, stockings, etc.). Students are encouraged to bring costumes and props they want to work with.

CHAIR DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY

WEDNESDAYS – February 9 to March 16, 2011 / 7:30PM-8:30PM (6 week series)
In this 6-week series, we will work on the fundamentals of burlesque dance, with particular attention to graceful and sensual movements, while learning the “Lascive” group chair dance routine for the Fishnet Follies Burlesque Chorus.
Led by Mynx d’Meanor.

Open to women of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds, 18 years and older. No prior dance experience necessary!
