Hot on the tail of yesterday’s post on the NY burlesque news coverage, comes TV coverage of the scene in the left coast. NBC Bay Area highlights three of the best-known performers in San Francisco burlesque: Kitten on the Keys!!! (shown with the Scenic Sisters), Mariel a la Mode, and The Devilettes.

I loved how each performer interviewed was able to share their background and particular niche in the burlesque community. And Kitten on the Keys giving a 30-second history of burlesque, while pointing out that the revival/neo-burlesque scene has been going on for years.

And Mariel’s quote: “We are having fun. If we’re not, then we shouldn’t be performing.”

Great piece. My only question: Can’t these reporters come up with headlines or story angles that does not involve the notion of a “comeback”? Burlesque is here. It’s been here. And it’s not going away.
